Taking its name from a famous eighteenth century recipe created by erstwhile domestic goddess Hannah Glasse, The Jugged Hare is an irresistible melange of traditional public house, spacious dining room and stunning vaulted cellar now a sought-after private dining room.
Once the brewery's barrelling room, the dining room is an atmospheric mix of exposed ceramic tiles, vaulted ceilings and oak timber floorboards, with an open kitchen adding a sense of theatre. Seasonal British dishes are prepared using traditional cooking methods and paired with independent boutique wines. A 'walk-in' wine room allows diners to handpick a favourite bottle of red, while a window to the kitchen's 'cold room showcases the ageing process of meat and hanging game. Vibrant red leather banquettes and comfortable stools at 'the pass' allow diners to survey the scene as head chef Stephen Englefield and team prepare food on a state-of-the art eight-spit rotisserie and charcoal grill.
With a back bar display of antique and exclusively British cased taxidermy always a talking point, it's a wonderfully eclectic blend of original brass ironmongery, anaglypta wallpapered high ceilings and antique whisky barrel high tables.
